Hockey +/- (Week 1)

mistfarerI made a NY resolution to post more on LJ/DW, and it took me a while to get going, but I'm finally following through!
The NHL finally started the season last week, and as can be expected, hockey basically took over my life again. I watched a ridiculous amount of hockey this week (I REGRET NOTHING), so I have a lot of thinky thoughts (and a lot of rage, lol) floating in my head.
Fair warning: I'm that really obnoxious Pens fan you sometimes dislike. But also, the Canes! Oilers! Avs!
Pittsburgh Penguins
+ Sidney Crosby. So I kind of maybe really love him? A lot? Don't get me wrong, I'm not impervious to some of the shit he does on the ice, but I just really enjoy watching him play. Though, I guess if I'm being honest, his play recently doesn't really warrant a plus (for him), but considering he hasn't played regularly in the last two years and yet he's still at a PPG pace? BEAST. Also, this happened:
His face is ridiculous.
+ Winning the first two games against division rivals!
+ Niskanen. He's been such an underrated solid player for the team!
- Everything and everyone else post the NYR game. No, seriously. The less said about the Leafs and Jets games, the better. It's not even that they lost, it's that they lost for the same exact reasons (minus the fighting) as their series loss to the Flyers last season.
Carolina Hurricanes
+ Their offense is finally picking up steam. EStaal hat trick! Jeffy's goals! Sasha scoring his first goal as a Cane!
+ Justin Faulk. Steven Stamkos only had two shots because of him during the TBL game. Two.
+ Cam didn't make me cry during their home game against Buffalo! But also, this happened:
- I'm still trying to forget their first two games existed.
- TOO MANY STUPID PENALTIES. ALLLLL THE STUPID PENALTIES. DID I MENTION THE STUPID PENALTIES?
Edmonton Oilers
+ Nail Yakupov is a perfect human being.
+ As is Sam Gagner.
- Like Carolina, TOO MANY DAMN PENALTIES. TAYLOR HALL, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.
- On that note, WHAT'S A PENALTY KILL?
Colorado Avalanche
+ Landy finally gets to wear his C! I really do think he's going to be a great Captain. He's a delight and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Also, this happened after his first goal:

Basically, I have a lot of Landy feels.
+ Dutchy! He's been fantastic. I'm super sad I missed his second goal against CBJ because it was a beaut (boo flu symptoms)!
+ Varly. This is an actionshot of Varly:
- Losing Downie for the rest of the season because of injury. Ugh.
- ROR drama. I can't even with that. There's a lot I can say, but basically, Jamie Benn just signed for $5.25 mil and John Tavares is making $5.5 mil. I can't think of any universe where ROR should make more than either of them.
Now I'm off to watch the Avs game and cry over O'Byrne's bazillion minute penalties and 3 PP for the Sharks. FML.
